Laman O'Nera

Laman O'Nera is a Montreal born wordsmith and singer whose debut album Montreallegory (Released in November 2011) cinematically employs wit, humour and heartbreak to wonderfully memorable melodies. The songs provide a home for a history and future of saints and sinners much like the city that gave us Leonard Cohen, Rufus Wainwright and most recently, the Arcade Fire. There are songs about modern romance, fame, tabloid culture, burlesque icons and generational clashes. Born Silvio Ursino, Laman O'Nera has a library of influences such as The Smiths, The Velvet Underground, 60 British Rock,70's Glam, 80's New Wave, Motown, Tori Amos and of course, his compatriots Wainwright and Cohen. In Rick Coluccio (Amanda Mabro), Laman has found a kindred musical spirit whose playing on Montreallegory stretches from Johnny Marr influenced 12 string riffing (A Notorious Daughter) to the Marc Bolan/Mick Ronson guitar attack of Propaganda Vehicle and the Ennio Morricone flavoured piano intro of Metaphysical Girl. Each of the thirteen songs on Montreallegory act like a chapter in a J.D. Salinger story, unique but part of the greater portrait.
